Bird of the sun

You can see the sun as the centre of all kinds of birds. It is a symbol. Consider the sun as a Goddes that has to cope with all kinds of creatures. This Goddes accepts every creature big or small, hansome or ugly, young and old.

The unborn child

This mandala is dedicated to the unborn child and the guiding angels that protect it against all kind of evil. These angels are represented as dolphins. These animals have a lot in common with the heavenly angels. The cord you see above is the umbilical cord, but you can also consider it as a lifeline that is associated with heaven.

The Western Scheldt Tunnel Project

Not only in nature you will find mandala forms, also in the industrial branche you can find them This is a picture of the machine that is used for the bored tunnel beneath the Westerschelde in Zeeland - the Netherlands. The picture was made in the time that I was working at the Western Scheldt Tunnel project. We went to see the machine in Germany where it was assembled.

The waking up of a little boy

I made this drawing with water paint. That was a new material for me, as I only worked with oil paint. The painting shows a little boy just waking up from his dreams and he sees all kind of things around him, like a fisherman, a window, dolphins. I made a mandala drawing of this.

Mandala designs from nature

Looking at nature you will discover many repeating patterns, for example: the skin of a snake, a spiders web, the wings of a butterfly and the structure of a snail.

(foto Cor Huijgens)

All these things have the characteristics of a mandala. In spite of my inexplicable fear of spiders, I do have a hugh admiration for the ingenious way they build their webs. In particular in fall, as the morning sun breaks gently through the foggy clouds. And the world turns slowly into a kaleidoscope of sparkling colours, so typical for this season.

When this happens the forest looks like a creation made for a fairy tale. And the cobweb appears as a magic spiral, full of shiny diamants. At these moments, when you're surrounded by the beauty of Gods nature, you can feel the divine spark. And you are happy to be in this world.

In the beginning....

There was nothing but empty space. At a certain moment there was this big bang, an enormous kind of an orgasm, that filled the universe with potential life. Stars and planets were born. On some planets life began to grow as tiny little organism.

A mandala is like a micro cosmos. Some people call it the magic circle. In my opinion a mandala is a circle of life with elements like yin and yang, dark and light, round and square structures. Everywhere around you, there are mandala designs.

Look in the eyes of someone and you will see a small mandala in the iris. Cut an orange in two pieces and you'll see a perfect circle with clear orange parts. Just be alert that you take a fresh one. Otherwise the colours won't be orange, but grey, white and green, as it gets mouldy!

Look at a daisy. This tiny little sun with its fresh white leaves is the flower that belongs to Aries. Daisies always had a special place in my heart. Ever since I was a little girl I picked them from the meadows. I made wreaths of daisies to put in my hair, not knowing that it was the flower that belongs to my constellation.
